Sunday 29th of March

This week was quite an experience, I completely wrecked my neck by sleeping funny on it so I'm sailing the painkiller wave to happy land, and the grouse folks from Tinpan Orange came in for a chat.

I managed to push all the buttons ok despite the clouds and birdies around my head, and was well chuffed with all the tunes that Jesse and Emily brought in. You should definitely check out their website Tinpan Orange

Sunday 15th March

This week was the week after International Women's Day, so I focused on the manly blokey fella tunes in the second hour.

The first hour my feature artist was Cilla Jane, the lady responsible for a very sweet album called When The Night Falls. Her otherworldly vocals are beautifully offset by cello and gently cascading music. It's a great album to bliss out to, check out her myspace and have a listen.

Timothy Cannon - Sattelite
The Stillsons - Monday Morning

We're back!

Local and Vocal is back on board for the Autumn Grid, Sundays 1 - 3 pm. I'm pretty stoked about that.

Today's triumphant return happened to fall on International Women's Day (other wise known as happy birthday Angie Hart day), so there was a big focus on the ladies. I might play all dudes next week in the second hour, just to ensure I remain an equal opportunity radio program.

I had a chat on the phone with fab Sydney lady Sarah Aubrey, who you may know for many reasons:

  • her band Girl Most Likely
  • she was featured in a Tropfest short film about her doing a poo, and won best actress at Tropfest for this in 2002
  • the girl in the Silverchair video for Ana's Song
Sarah is in a band with her girlfriend Beck (drums), neighbour Chris and friend Scott. They're grouse! Check them out.

In the second half of the program the happiest lady I've ever met popped in to have a chat and a play, Coby Grant is launching her EP Coby Grant Is In Full Colour at the Northcote Social Club tonight in the middle of her national tour. We played BAM and Coby played A Song About Me (which was not about me, but about her) live in the studio. It was so lovely and affirming that I almost floated away but I did force myself to stick around and press the buttons til the end of the show.

WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO

I can't wait to see Mia Dyson and Jen Cloher play at the Athenaeum next Saturday night.

It's good to be back. I feel happy inside.
